Our Beginnings
The association began its journey in developing an integrated care unit (shelter) more than fifty years ago. With the establishment of the association in 1973, the idea of providing care for people with disabilities was born in a modest old house with limited resources and tireless determination and strong will united in the hearts of sincere women who loved doing good.
Since its establishment, the association's integrated care department has welcomed more than 150 residents with severe and multiple disabilities, providing them with comprehensive accommodation, nursing, therapeutic and rehabilitative treatment, beds, wheelchairs, medical devices and equipment, as well as central services including the provision of appropriate meals, cleaning, laundry, care programs, physical therapy, and occupational therapy.
The department currently cares for 20 people with severe disabilities, most of whom have multiple disabilities such as cerebral palsy with mental and motor disabilities and sometimes sensory disabilities. Some cases are accompanied by health problems such as difficulty swallowing and chewing, which requires tube feeding. These conditions require special clinical care that is not available by their families. The association also provides comprehensive care for some humanitarian cases of severely disabled orphans who cannot be cared for at home.
The association has worked to develop this section and implement a policy that focuses on integrating children with their families and society. It is also keen not to separate persons with disabilities from their families except in cases of extreme necessity. Therefore, the association requires that guardians take their children home during weekends and annual vacations.
The Kuwait Society for the Care of the Disabled is also keen to provide these and other services to children from low-income families to enable them to live a dignified life and maintain their health.

Board of Directors
Good Governance
At KSH, our governance is built on a foundation of accountability, transparency, and ethical leadership. We understand that our responsibility extends far beyond our mission; it is about earning and maintaining the trust of every family, donor, and team member.
Our framework is overseen by a dedicated Board of Directors, composed of community leaders, medical professionals, and financial experts. This board ensures that all decisions align with our core values and the best interests of the individuals we serve. By providing rigorous financial oversight and strategic direction, the board ensures every resource is used effectively to deliver the highest quality of care.
We uphold a strict code of conduct that guides all our operations, from patient care to donor relations. This commitment to transparency means we are open about our financials, program outcomes, and operational practices. We believe this level of openness is essential for building a strong, trust-based relationship with our community. Our governance structure is designed not just to meet legal requirements, but to serve as a beacon of integrity and an example of how compassionate care and sound management can work together to create a lasting, positive impact.
Our Guiding Principles: The KSH Bylaws
The bylaws of KSH serve as our foundational legal and operational document, outlining the rules that govern our organization's existence and function. These are not static regulations but a living framework designed to ensure we operate with integrity, efficiency, and a deep commitment to our mission.
Our bylaws clearly define our organizational structure, including the roles and responsibilities of our Board of Directors and key leadership. They establish transparent procedures for board elections, meetings, and decision-making, guaranteeing that our governance is both democratic and accountable.
Crucially, the bylaws detail our financial management policies, ensuring all donations and resources are handled with the utmost responsibility and are directed toward our programs and services. They also formalize our commitment to ethical conduct, providing a framework for conflict resolution and ensuring that every member of the KSH family—from staff to volunteers—operates under a shared set of values. In essence, our bylaws are the blueprint for our commitment to serving the community and maintaining the trust placed in us.
